Alternative Therapies

Acupuncture

Acupunture is estimated to have been discovered 3000 years ago and uses either pressure, needles, electricity, or lasers to affect the flow of energy or "Qi" through the body.  According to traditional chinese medicine this flow of energy or Qi can negatively affect the body when it is out of balance.  The goal of acupuncture treatments is to balance the flow of energy in the body and by so doing, a wide variety of ailments can be treated.  Jensen chiropractic utilizes the advanced technology of the Acugraph, which measures the flow of energy in the body and allows the Doctor to accurately treat and balance each patients' energy flow.  Some patients worry about the needles that are used with acupuncture since the only exposure they have to needles are even hypodermic or sewing.  Acupuncture needles are so much thinner that you can fit 5 acupuncture needles INSIDE of a hypodermic needle.  They are approximately the same width as a human hair.

Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a very new treatment method which uses a low energy laser light to increase the blood flow and aid in the healing of body tissues.  Laser therapy can be used in conjunction with acupuncture to treat a variety of physical ailments.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to cause vibration at the cellular level.  This vibration increases the flow of blood and lymph through the area and increases the healing of the affected area.

Intersegmental Traction

Through the use of an intersegmental traction table we provide a stretching to the spine which can decrease some of the negative effects of gravity.  By stretching the muscles and discs, fluid is allowed to flow into the discs and rehydrate them, thus reversing the constant compressive effects of gravity.

Kinesiology Taping

You may have noticed all of the colorful tape used on the athletes in the 2012 Summer olympics.  That is kinesiology tape and it is a treatment that has really caught on in the last several years.  The basic premise to kinesiology taping is stability without sacrificing motion.  When the tape is applied to the skin, it provides a lifting effect that decompresses the tissues and increases blood and lymph flow, which increases healing.  This decompression and increase of lymph flow can also be beneficial in decreasing swelling and/or bruising.
